Drents Museum / Northern Light de Ontdekking van de Hemel
Composition + Sound Design + Voice Over
Briefing
The Drents Museum is known for their often high-profile archeological exhibitions. In 2008, they were one of the first non-Chinese museums to exhibit the Xian Terracotta Army, for example. Now, in 2022, they've added a unique artefact to their exhibition list: the Nebra Sky Disc. This disc is humankinds first depiction of the heavens.
Exhibition developer Northern Light got us on board to compose an endearing audio tour and book a fitting voice over. The audio tour needed to be engaging, have sound design that reflected the Bronze Age and grasp the audience's attention throughout the 30 minute walkthrough.
Execution
We quickly decided long sounds, slow-moving musical elements and loads of villagey sound design was the best way to make this audio tour an immersive experience. We also had four demo's of possible voice-overs made, and together with client we decided on the voice best suited.
Result
The exhibition 'De Ontdekking van de Hemel' premiered at the Drents Museum in The Netherlands on August 6th, 2022, and is shown until september 18th. It's very unique that this disc travels outside of its home museum in Saale, Germany.
